Choices. Chances. Changes.
Hello! I’m Laura, thanks for stopping by. A few basics to start. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area with my husband Sean and our zoo - two cats (Riggs & Murtaugh) and our cockapoo dog-child, Leo. Sean and I are both California-natives. Our families are here, which makes this home for us.
Like many others who needed a hobby, I started making candles during the pandemic (I failed miserably at making sourdough bread). I loved it instantly. Candle making filled my creative side. And the payoff was spectacular - a beautiful handmade piece of home décor that made the house smell amazing. It was invigorating to talk about the feelings the scents evoked (like walking into our local coffee shop). I started giving them to friends and family as gifts. They loved the candles and said, "You can sell these." The whole experience was full of feel-good moments. I realized this is what people meant when they said do something you love, and it will never feel like work.
Still, I continued at my corporate job. I’ve been a marketer in the tech industry for over 20 years. Ironically, I’ve spent my career working for companies that provide products to small businesses (bookkeeping, domain names, etc.). Over the years, I’ve interviewed hundreds of small business owners, literally. I’ve continuously been inspired by their passion, dedication and above all perseverance. I always thought “one day.”
Then, in 2023, I found myself among the thousands of tech industry workers, who were laid off. I was at a crossroad. Continue corporate life or pursue turning my hobby into a business. On the one hand, I was filled with uncertainty and doubt. What if it fails? What if I don't make any money? On the other hand, I was full of passion and confidence. What if takes off? What if it’s bigger than I could imagine? Do I go for it or not?
The answer: GO FOR IT! I realized the real question was why not?
The ideas and planning started. In Northern California, inspiration is all around. I wanted to use the power of scent with handmade, high-quality, timeless products and simple style to create experiences.
Our products are designed to inspire feel-good moments
Thank you for being a part of this journey. I don’t know where it will take me and that’s OK. I’m taking it one day at a time (the best advice my dad ever gave me). I do know that I was meant to be on this journey at this time in my life.
Happy smelling!
