Candle Care & Tips

While it might seem trivial, there is a correct way to burn a candle. These guidelines from the National Candle Association, are both for safety and performance. Follow these instructions to get the maximum burn time and scent throw from your candle.

How to burn your candle

First burn: allow the wax to melt all the way to the edges of jar. This helps ensure your candle burns down evenly (avoiding a crater in the center known as "tunneling")

Subsequent burns: Trim wick to 1/4" before each use. This prevents the flame from getting too high, which leads to the candle burning too hot and too fast (reducing the candle's estimated burn time), as well as excessive sooting (black film inside the jar).

3 rules for candle safety

  1. Never leave a burning candle unattended
  2. Never burn a candle on or near anything that might catch fire
  3. Keep candles out of the reach of children and pets
